Routes and times: from Malpensa, Linate, Bergamo and Milan to Bellagio

The road to Bellagio is one of the most beautiful arrivals in Lombardy, and with a private transfer it stays a pleasure instead of a puzzle. Bellagio lies around eighty kilometres from Milan, at the tip of the promontory where the lake opens towards Como on one side and Lecco on the other, and the final stretch runs along the water or over the green ridge between the two branches. A chauffeur who drives these roads every week knows which way is quicker at each hour of the day and takes you door to door: a hotel terrace, a villa gate, the small port at the end of the village.
The times below are real door-to-door driving times in normal traffic. On summer weekends, Friday evenings and during the big lake events, add a margin of twenty to thirty minutes: the scenery is spectacular, but the lakeside roads still run one lane in each direction. Everything is planned in advance, so the car leaves at the right moment and you arrive calm.
From Malpensa and Bergamo Orio al Serio
Malpensa is the reference airport for Lake Como. From Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 to Bellagio it is around 88 kilometres and 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours, on the A8 and A9 motorways and then either the western shore road through Tremezzo and Cadenabbia or the ridge road from the Lecco side, depending on traffic. Bergamo Orio al Serio is around 95 kilometres away and takes 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours along the A4 and the SS36 beside the Lecco branch. In both cases the alternative by train and ferry means changes, timetables and a long final stretch on foot with the luggage.
A private transfer removes every variable. The driver tracks the flight number from departure, moves the pick-up time automatically if the plane lands late, waits in arrivals with a name sign and takes the luggage to the car. Waiting time at the airport is included in the fixed fare, so a delayed flight never becomes an extra cost or a stressful phone call.
From Milan and Linate
From the centre of Milan to Bellagio the distance is around 80 kilometres and the drive takes 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. The quickest route runs along the eastern ring roads towards Lecco and then over the ridge, while the western route through Como and the lakeside road is slightly longer but scenically perfect and often faster outside rush hour. Linate airport adds only a few kilometres to the Milan time, which makes it the most comfortable arrival for business travellers and short stays.
The service works just as well in the other direction. A dinner in Milan, a fair at Rho Fiera or an evening at the theatre becomes a simple night out when a car waits at the hotel door with the return already planned: our Milan to Malpensa transfer and Linate to Milan transfer pages cover the airport runs, and the same fixed-fare logic applies to every journey.
The last miles: the lake road and the village
Whichever route you choose, the last kilometres follow the water: the historic lakeside road on the Como shore, or the SS36 beside the Lecco branch and then the green hill road that drops towards the promontory. Bellagio itself is a village of cobbled lanes and stepped alleys, largely pedestrian and with very limited traffic: the driver knows the drop-off points that actually work and leaves you exactly where you need to be, from the hotel entrance to the ferry quay or the shuttle pier for the villas.
The same door-to-door service covers the villages around the central basin. Tremezzo, Cadenabbia, Menaggio, Lenno, Varenna, Lecco and the farmhouses on the hills are all regular destinations, with the car sized to the group and the luggage. For travellers based in the city of Como or arriving from the Swiss border, the distances are short and the times honest: around 45 minutes from Como and one hour from Lugano.
What to see in Bellagio and around the central lake basin

Bellagio rewards slow days. The village climbs from Punta Spartivento, where the two branches of the lake meet, to the terraces above: boutique shops, trattorias serving lake fish, gardens that open onto the water and views that change with every landing. Two or three days here is the right measure, and with a car at your disposal the whole basin becomes one single destination.
Bellagio in a day: the village, Villa Melzi and the gardens
A day in Bellagio starts on the waterfront and climbs the Salita Serbelloni, the stepped lane that crosses the village from the port to the upper road. The historic centre is compact: artisan shops, silk scarves, delis with local cheeses, and restaurants where the classic is risotto with perch fillets or the smoked agone called missoltini, followed by a walk along the lungolago towards Punta Spartivento, the exact point where Lake Como splits in two.
Villa Melzi d'Ertil faces the water just south of the centre, with its neoclassical facade and an English-style garden of azaleas, rhododendrons and old cedars that is open to visitors from March to November. Above the village, the gardens of Villa Serbelloni, run by the Rockefeller Foundation, can be visited by reservation and repay the climb with the finest panoramic terraces on the lake.
Villa Carlotta, Villa del Balbianello and the Tremezzina shore
Across the water on the western shore, the Tremezzina strip holds two of the most famous villas in Italy. Villa Carlotta, in Tremezzina, combines a botanical garden of about seven hectares, famous for its azaleas in late spring, with a museum that houses Canova sculptural masterpieces. It is a stop of two or three hours, best in the morning when the gardens are quiet and the light is soft on the water.
Villa del Balbianello, in Lenno, is the postcard of the lake: terraced gardens on a small promontory, a loggia open to the view and a house that has appeared in films from Star Wars to the James Bond saga. It is reached on foot from San Giovanni or by boat from Lenno, and it is also one of the most requested venues for weddings and private events in Lombardy, which means booking well in advance in season.
Varenna, Menaggio and the lake crossings
The two shores facing Bellagio are worth the crossing. Varenna, on the eastern side, is a medieval village of coloured houses with Villa Monastero and its botanical garden, the path to Castello di Vezio above the roofs and, a few kilometres north, the natural gorge of the Orrido di Bellano. Menaggio, on the western shore, has a wide promenade, a historic golf club founded in 1907 and the departure point for the quieter northern lake.
Connecting the shores takes minutes: the passenger and car ferries between Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna run all day and take around fifteen minutes each way, which turns a boat crossing into an everyday convenience rather than an excursion. From Bellagio the lake opens up in every direction: Como is around 45 minutes away, Lecco less than an hour, and our guide to Lecco and the eastern shore covers the other side of the basin in detail.
Events and seasons: when to plan your trip to Lake Como

Every season shows a different lake, and choosing when to come is half of planning the stay. The villas and gardens follow the flowering calendar, the big events concentrate in late spring and summer, and the quieter months are exactly when the basin is at its most authentic.
Spring and summer: gardens, boats and long evenings
From mid-April to late May the gardens of Villa Carlotta and Villa Melzi are in bloom, the terraces open and the lake is still quiet: it is the favourite window for garden lovers, photographers and anyone who wants Bellagio without the crowds. At the end of May the great classic car concours at Villa d'Este in Cernobbio fills the first basin with elegance, and June brings long evenings on the water, boat tours and dinners on hotel terraces.
July and August are high season: warm water, full ferry timetables, events and village festivals, and more traffic on the lakeside roads at weekends. With a chauffeur at your disposal the difference is tangible: the car waits at the door in the heat, the transfers between villages take minutes and the evenings on the lake end whenever you decide, not when the last bus leaves.
Autumn and winter: colours, villas and quiet
September and October are the secret season of Lake Como: the water is still warm, the light turns golden, the woods on the hills change colour and the villages return to their own pace. It is the best time for long walks, boat trips, wine and food weekends in the small restaurants of the basin, and for weddings, which the villas host from spring right through to October.
From November to March the lake is quiet and atmospheric: Christmas lights and markets enliven Como and the villages, the grand hotels keep elegant rooms and restaurants open for festive dinners and New Year stays, and the roads are free. For winter travellers a private transfer is the comfortable answer to cold arrivals and early departures, when public connections thin out.
The NCC chauffeur service in Bellagio

The NCC service with chauffeur is designed for exactly this kind of journey: winding roads, precious luggage, hotel and villa arrivals where the details matter. Everything is agreed before departure, from the vehicle class to the meeting point, and nothing is left to improvisation on the day.
Fleet and classes: business, first, van and minibus
Four classes cover every request. The Business sedan, a Mercedes-Benz E-Class or similar, is the standard for one to three travellers with their cases; the First class sedan adds presence and silence for weddings, ceremonies and clients who need both; the Executive Van takes up to seven passengers with a real luggage bay, the natural choice for families and groups of friends; and the Minibus answers for larger parties, delegations and event transfers in a single vehicle.
Equipment is arranged at booking: child seats and boosters, room for golf bags, skis or boat luggage, and space for wedding dresses and formal wear, which travel hanging and arrive pressed. The full fleet page describes capacities and models: the rule of thumb is one person and one large suitcase per seat, so the ride stays comfortable on the hill roads.
Flight tracking, meet & greet and included waiting
Every airport transfer is followed in real time. The driver receives the flight number, watches the landing and adjusts the pick-up automatically: if the plane is early or late, the car is there at the right moment and no one waits alone in arrivals. The service is active 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including nights and public holidays.
On arrival the chauffeur waits in the meeting area with a personalised name sign, helps with the luggage and walks you to the car. The waiting time after landing is included in the fixed fare, and the same care is there at the end of the stay: the pick-up from the hotel or villa is planned with a margin over the flight departure, so the journey back to the airport is never a rush.
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before
Every booking can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before the pick-up time. Plans change, flights are cancelled, events move: a premium service is measured also on how it handles changes, and writing to the same WhatsApp contact used for the booking is enough to have the cancellation confirmed with no cost.
Within the 48 hours the booking team still helps with changes of time and route, and for the unexpected, a delayed flight or an extra passenger at the last minute, the answer is one message away. That is exactly the point of a chauffeur service on a lake where distances are short: everything is organised before, and there is nothing to organise while you travel.
Booking and arriving: how the transfer works
Booking takes a few minutes and everything is confirmed before the journey: the fixed fare is shown at booking and includes tolls, parking, night supplements and luggage handling, with no meters and no surprises afterwards. The reference for prices and formats is our prices page, and the booking team answers within ten minutes on WhatsApp every day.
Booking and fixed-fare confirmation
To book you need the essentials: the pick-up point, an airport terminal, a station or a private address in Bellagio or around the basin, the destination, date and time, the number of passengers and pieces of luggage, and the vehicle class. The system or the team replies with the fixed fare and the car assigned, and the booking is confirmed with a message you can keep.
The fare does not change for traffic, for a delayed flight or for a detour agreed at booking: it covers the whole journey, from door to door, with the vehicle and the driver dedicated to your booking alone. Return journeys and multi-day programmes are quoted the same way, so a weekend on the lake has a clear cost from the first message.
Practical tips for your stay on the lake
A few small things make the stay smoother. Book the transfer before arriving, especially in spring and in the summer weekends, when demand is high and the good cars are booked first; check the ferry timetables if you plan to cross the lake by boat, and keep in mind that luggage travels by car while you travel by water, so the two can be planned together.
Bellagio has paid parking areas above the village, but in season they fill up quickly: leaving the car at the hotel and moving with a chauffeur saves time and stress, particularly in the evenings and for dinners in the restaurants along the shores. Light layers are useful in every season, because the lake breeze drops the temperature after sunset, even in July.
How long does the transfer from Malpensa to Bellagio take?
Around 88 kilometres and 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours door to door in normal traffic. The driver tracks the flight and waits in arrivals with a name sign, and the waiting time after landing is included in the fixed fare.
How much does a private transfer to Bellagio cost?
The fare is fixed and agreed at booking, and depends only on the route and the vehicle class: business sedan, first class, van or minibus. It already includes tolls, parking and night supplements, and does not change for traffic or for a delayed flight.
Does the service include flight tracking and meet & greet?
Yes. Every airport transfer is followed in real time, the pick-up follows the flight if it lands late, and the chauffeur waits in arrivals with a name sign and helps with the luggage.
Can I book a van or a minibus for a group, a wedding or an event?
Yes. The van takes up to seven passengers with luggage and the minibus covers larger groups, while child seats, dress space and sports equipment are arranged at booking, so the car arrives already prepared.
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes, free of charge up to 48 hours before the pick-up: writing on WhatsApp is enough and the cancellation is confirmed with no cost. For changes of time and route the booking team answers within 10 minutes.
Do you also take guests to the villas and the ferry piers?
Yes, the service is door to door: hotels, private villas, ferry quays and the shuttle piers of Villa del Balbianello and Villa Carlotta are regular drop-off points, with luggage handled by the chauffeur.
